To all those who celebrate, a belated Happy Easter to you! I hope that, like mine, your long weekend was full of good food, good company and good weather (though it may have been mixed in with the occasional April shower..!)

I recently reflected on what it was about this time of year that brought the nation to a pause (except, of course, for that precious 4-day weekend) and came upon the conclusion that it was due to the promise and expectation that we feel at this time. It is as if we sense new and exciting things are coming and we are using this time to prepare ourselves for it.

As a religious festival, Easter itself is a celebration of new life and renewal. Meanwhile, in the natural world around us, we are able to see new life appearing in blooming flora and budding young fauna, all enjoying the (mostly) wonderful springtime weather. The Easter Bunny himself, who has loomed large over the last few weeks, is a symbol of new life.

So, what to do with all this sense of newness and anticipation? Well, drive that enthusiasm into an opportunity for some spring cleaning, of course! Whether it’s in the most literal sense of having a good old tidy up or a more allegorical interpretation, this is a great opportunity to review, revaluate and reset.

Maybe it’s an opportunity to revisit some of those resolutions we set at the beginning of the year (hands up who’s still sticking to theirs?) or have a think about some habits we didn’t necessarily want to examine too closely following the Christmas period. Maybe it’s an opportunity to review some longer-standing commitments.

For many, this is a great time of year to see what new opportunities there are within their career. The dust having settled from the new year and the sense of enthusiasm for the rest of the year ahead often comes together to make us think, ‘what could I be doing better?’.
