What if you don’t like maths?!

The New Year is always a busy time for the majority of finance professionals with year-ends, the start of budgeting season or prepping for the tax year submissions, so it is not always the perfect time for a re-set that you might wish. Nevertheless, I do hope you managed to have some down time over Christmas.

It is different for us recruiters who should take this time to re-visit their offering and relationship with their clients to ensure they remain fit for purpose. Using market intelligence, data and insights, recruiters work out career patterns and changes in market conditions to understand their clients (both hiring organisations and candidates) to optimise their advisory offering rather than just getting you your next job.

Clearly Rishi’s exhortations for the pursuit of Maths is good news for the accounting profession! I know to succeed in an accounting career you do not need to be a brilliant mathematician (before I am jumped on), but it helps.

Career behaviour is constantly evolving, probably more radically over the past 24 months than ever before, spurred on by external factors and events that we are more than familiar with. Being flexible and receptive to this change can help recruiters keep clients appraised of opportunities and threats.

The advisory element of our offering has never been more relevant.

So let us hope 2023, despite the prevailing headwinds, has many a win for you professionally or personally, be they large or small, with us at ABPM on hand to support you on team requirements or career aspirations.
