Thrive and Survive this frosty February

Despite our grumbling, it does seem that all this cold weather we’re currently enduring does, like most things, has its advantages. For example, the cooler temperatures are better for those who struggle to sleep at night, and as for allergy sufferers, the air is free from pollen, allowing for sniffle-free days. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory qualities of sub-zero temperatures also means that a cold day has the same effect on puffy eyes and redness as a splash of cold water would do. No distractions at work!

The cold weather means those New Year’s resolutions can be stuck too, so there really are no excuses; although leaving your carefully heated home may be a struggle, scientists have found that exercise like running is actually easier in the cold. Furthermore, healthy body, healthy mind. Keeping cool also promotes healthy brain function and alertness, allowing for greater productivity and success when studying or working. Even in the height of summer, classrooms and workplaces are kept cool to stop the people in them dozing off!

As for industries which thrive on the cold weather, a cold snap and all this snow is welcomed. Maybe not necessarily in the UK, but winter sports resorts that depend on snowfall thrive economically when the cold weather hits. Last minute ski trips and family ski holidays that are inspired by the snowy forecasts mean that this industry will receive a boost.

Furthermore, it is easy to see how something which is seen to disrupt, really isn’t so bad at all, and this applies elsewhere, not just the current frosty temperatures. Examine challenges and see the advantages they present instead. This concept is something which can be applied to your career too, as a change in circumstance or career may at first seem daunting, see instead how it can work to your advantage. We here at ABPM are on hand to support these challenges and ensure that you make the most of these opportunities in your career and thrive on them.
