The Water Carrier Delivers!

As we completed another week of a heatwave unlike any other in most of our living memories, I think we and the people of Europe are unanimously agreed it is officially been too hot to do anything (except, of course, sit in the sun with a refreshing beverage in hand) too energetic. However, though we grumble about the stifling heat of our offices and places of work, I feel our struggles pale in comparison to the athletes, who, despite the sapping heat, are providing an exciting summer of exceptional sport.

We had a strong start, when England football nearly brought it home from the Football World Cup, Wimbledon bathed in sunshine, England cricket win a thrilling first test against India by 31 runs and our athletes and swimmers excelling at the European championships. Perhaps it is actually thanks to the hot weather that we are in such good spirits and the world of sport is full of smiles and it distracts us from the worries of Brexit.

However, I would like to draw to our attention one outstanding event of the summer in my eyes and evidence that the unsung can truly have their day in the sun. In the headlines in the past weeks is Geraint Thomas. For those who may have somehow missed him, he is the 32 year old Welshman, who won the Tour de France 2018. And a worthy winner he is too.

Although, this may be his first time on the winners podium at Paris, Thomas has been a highly successful cyclist since he was 15, picking up a couple of Olympic golds (no mean achievement!) and prizes all over the globe. He has been part of Team Sky, an integral member of the teams that have four (and now five) victories in the Tour de France. Having supported Chris Froome to victory in three previous races it was uplifting to the spirits to watch Geraint Thomas take a truly deserved and universally applauded victory.

The equal value of the individual and the team is so well demonstrated by team Sky that it is equally applicable to life and the work place. Whilst Thomas might not have always been the name in the headlines, he worked to ensure that it was a member of his team that had the glory.

Here at ABPM, we recognise the value of team work and our recruitment approach is mindful of the individual and the team because it is clear that success and development in your career the two are innately interwoven. So, water carriers and team leaders focus on the collective being successful. We look forward to working with you, and helping and advising you to find your moments in the sun.
