This one’s for the Girls

We haven’t even reached the halfway point, but 2018 is shaping up to be an important year. I have a strong suspicion that fifty, a hundred, maybe even two hundred years from now, school children will read about 2018 as a year that was rife with social and political change. Certainly, in many ways this is not a good thing, with whispers of another world war circulating and caricature-esque figures taking questionable actions in world politics (I try to maintain a neutral tone, but I think we can agree that the world has taken a strange turn).

On the other side of the coin positive changes seem to be occurring, particularly in the fields of equality. This is not to say that the fight is anywhere near to being over, but there is no doubt a surge of activism is happening. Its’ as if a large ball has started rolling, pushed by a generation of bright young things, and is gradually gaining momentum, as more and more people join the crowd pushing that optimistic, metaphorical ball.

The attention paid to the issues of gender pay gap, the growing incrimination of public figures guilty of sexual offences and the appearance of the first female statue, of suffragette Millicent Fawcett, on Parliament Square are just some examples that spring to mind of women’s voices finally being heard. If we ask ourselves to think of incredible, revolutionary women in historic and recent times, the list goes on and on and on… thus it seems absurd that we are still only just recognising the enormous potential and might of Girl Power (sic). Whereas we previously may have thought mainly of names like Elon Musk, Rupert Murdoch and Michael Bloomberg as leaders in business, women like Indra Nooyi and Ginni Rometty are paving the way for women in all sectors of business.

Thus, this month’s newsletter is written in celebration and honour of the women that are reshaping our present and future. Powerful women, women in the spotlight, who are providing a whole new genre of role model for the bright young girls that will take on this world and make it their own on equal terms.

We here at ABPM are proud of our ability to see the abilities of clients (women and men alike!) and assist them as they pursue their ambitions and career goals. We eagerly await your call, so we can set you on your path.
